The Machine Room Steel Access Ladder Project

The Machine Room Steel Access Ladder Project is basically a Pandemic Response Project.  Whereby at this point in the COVID Pandemic the focus of most establishments is to VENTILATE so as aerosolized droplets in the air won't stay in place.  To accomplish this in The Eastwood Lafayette III Condominium Building, the Fire Exit Blowers had to be run on a DAILY basis to pressurize the building to cause the movement of air in the common areas.

There is one caveat though in this anti-COVID solution : Occupational Safety Hazard.  Way back during the Roof deck Waterproofing Project I already highlighted the fact that the machine deck access ladder is ridiculously unsafe.

The Fire Exit Blowers are situated on top of the Elevator Machine Room and were once operated only on a once a month maintenance run... If you can see from the image below that would involve climbing the original access ladder 2 storeys high,,, without any cage to protect from fall Once a month could be tolerable... but doing it on a daily basis would multiply the risk of accident about 30x.

However, this anti-COVID measure to improve ventilation is a must-have.  Hence this project was done.  Aside from being an anti-COVID measure another obvious benefit is to help eliminate or minimize odors in the hallways of each floor.

This project entailed construction of a heavy duty steel access ladder from the level of the machine room entrance going up to the roof of the Elevator Machine Room which is just one floor up.
